Connie Champlin brings a wide range of expertize to her consulting. Her work in education covers a variety of areas: classroom teacher, school library media specialist, district administrator, library consultant, staff development coordinator, author, and media technology consultant. With over thirty years of experience as an educator, Connie's work reflects her understanding of student learning, schools, media centers, and instructional technology. She has presented workshops across the United States, as well as in the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand.

As a district administrator in four school districts, Connie integrated information and media literacy skills into into the curriculum, planned technology staff development activities and faciliated the implementation of distance learning, information delivery systems, and computer technology at new and renovated schools. She has provided leadership as districts implemented Information Power, national guidelines for school library medua programs, including open access media centers and co-planning of media specialists and teachers at all levels.

Connie has been an active, long time member of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), having served as a regional director, member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Supervisors Section. In addition, she has served as chair and member of numerous AASL committiees including the National Administrator of the Year Committee (Chr), Intellectual Freedom Award Committee (Chr), School Library Media Program of the Year Committee, Recruitment Task Force and the Publications Committee. As a member of the Association of Library Service to Children, Connie has been a member of the Newbery, Caldecott, Carneige Award committees.

Connie is the author of Storytelling with Puppets (ALA), Storytelling with Puppetry and Creative Dramatics (Nancy Renfro Studios), Books in Bloom, and Storytelling with the Computer, (Special Literature Press). She recently worked with David Loertscher on Reinventing Indiana's School Library Programs in the Age of Technology: A Guide for the Principals and Superintendants.

Give Them a Fish or Teach Them to Fish?: Keys to Successful Library Media Services In this "hands-on, heads-in" session, participants will discuss typical library service scenarios and determine which belong in the "Fish", "Bait", or "License" categories. A successful library/media program generates learners who can confidently and independently find information they need among a variety of print, media and online resources. Leadership strategies to meet that goal will be shared.
Conducting an Insta-Audit
The Insta-audit process provides an opportunity for a school or district to informally assess current status and prioritize next steps for    planning and implementation of technology to increase results for all students. Ranking guides for essential indicators are used to generate   dialogue, understanding and group decisions in a focus group format.
Focus on Information Fluency in a Digital World
Successful online research demands finely honed information skills.  Learn to identify, use, develop and evaluate lessons that focus on student learning results rather than on technology.
Harnessing the Power of INSPIRE
INSPIRE  is Indiana's Virtual Library, a collection of commercial databases and other information resources that can be accessed at no cost by Indiana residents and schools. Learn about the databases available and how they can be used in your classroom. You will practice search strategies and discover how to find the best resources for your grade level. Each participant will receive a collection of materials containing tip sheets, tech tips, activities and training resources.
Information Literacy: The New Basics
Perhaps the most important learning goal for all students of today's information glut society is "to learn how to deal effectively with too much information." In this workshop participants will define the key components of information literacy, critically review existing information skill models, and develop simple instructional strategies to use at target grade levels. Learn how to integrate both technology and information literacy skills with academic standards to ensure the success of students in research endeavors.
A Spotlight on Learning with Technology
Where is the Focus? - Billions of dollars have been spent on technology but what are the results?! Examine strategies, tools and techniques essential for quality technology assessment and planning.
Storytelling with Puppets and Creative Dramatics
Learn how to add a new dimension to your storytelling by creatively involving students in the story. Ideas to be explored include: host puppets, overhead shadow puppets, book theaters, sound and action stories. Workshop can be adapted for the library or classroom.
